Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for Anxiety, Depression & Trauma in Ventura, CA
Teens | Young Adults | Adults

A safe, structured step-down from residential or hospital care - without losing intensive support.

When severe anxiety, depression, or trauma has led to inpatient or residential treatment, the next step can feel confusing. You or your loved one may not be ready to jump straight back into everyday life, IOP, or once-a-week therapy—but you also don’t need 24/7 hospitalization anymore. That’s where a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Channel Islands Mental Health Treatment Center comes in. PHP provides a full clinical day of care in a supportive outpatient setting, helping you stabilize, build skills, and confidently transition back into home, school, and work.

PHP: The Bridge Between Hospitalization & Everyday Life

Our mental health PHP in Ventura, CA, is designed for adolescents, young adults, and adults who:

  • Are stepping down from residential treatment or psychiatric hospitalization for severe anxiety, depression, or trauma
  • Need more support and are able to live at home.
Are you or a loved one experiencing ongoing symptoms that make it hard to function at school, work, or home
  • Want intensive, evidence-based treatment in a non-residential, real-world setting

In PHP, you or a loved one attend treatment 5 days a week for 5–6 hours per day, receiving multi-hour blocks of therapy, skills practice, and structured support—then return home in the evenings. This “best of both worlds” model offers the intensity of hospital-level programming with the comfort and responsibility of living at home.

PHP for Anxiety, Depression & Trauma: What Treatment Looks Like

Our Partial Hospitalization Program for anxiety, depression, and trauma in Ventura uses the Channel Islands Total Immersion Method—a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that treats the whole person, not just symptoms. During PHP, your week may include:

  • Daily group therapy & psychoeducation:  Learn how anxiety, depression, and trauma affect the brain and body, and practice real-world coping skills in a supportive environment.
  • Weekly individual therapy: Work one-on-one with a licensed therapist on the core issues driving your symptoms, including trauma, perfectionism, shame, or relationship patterns.
  • Family therapy & caregiver support: Help your family understand what you’re going through, reset communication patterns, and create a healthier home environment.
  • Evidence-based therapies, such as:
    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
    • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
    • EMDR and trauma-focused interventions
    • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Experiential & holistic therapies: Art, music, somatic strategies, mindfulness, meditation, and yoga to help regulate your nervous system and reconnect with your body in a safe way.
  • Medication Management: We have Psychiatrists on staff that can evaluate, further diagnose and help regulate your medications while you are in the PHP or IOP programs at Channel Islands.
The goal is not just symptom relief—it’s helping you return to life with structure, confidence, and sustainable skills.

The Channel Islands Total Immersion Method in PHP

Channel Islands Mental Health Treatment Center is known for its Total Immersion Method, a model built specifically for people whose symptoms have not improved enough in traditional therapy.  In PHP, Total Immersion means:

  • More time in treatment, fewer distractions: Multi-hour therapy days let you go deeper than a 50-minute session ever could.
  • Customized treatment plans: Your team tailors interventions to your diagnosis, history, cultural background, and goals.
  • Integrated care for co-occurring issues: We address anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD traits, personality-trait challenges, and other stress-related issues together—not in isolation.
  • A “ring of support” around you and your family: Clinical, experiential, and holistic therapies are woven together so you’re supported emotionally, mentally, and physically throughout your healing.

Our aim is that when you complete PHP, you don’t just “get through the day”—you leave with a clear plan for your mental health and a realistic path forward.

A Typical Day in Our Mental Health PHP

While every person’s schedule is unique, a typical day in our Partial Hospitalization Program in Ventura might include:

  • Morning check-in & grounding: Review mood, safety, sleep, and goals for the day. Practice grounding or mindfulness to start centered.
  • Psychoeducation & skills groups: Learn about anxiety, depression, or trauma, how they interact with your nervous system, and how to manage triggers in real time.
  • Process groups: Safely explore emotions, beliefs, and patterns with peers who understand what you’re going through.
  • Experiential or holistic therapy: Art, music, movement, or somatic work to help release stress stored in the body.
  • Individual session (once weekly minimum)
Focused work with your primary therapist on your trauma history, fears, and goals.
  • Family or caregiver involvement (as clinically appropriate): Family education and therapy to support lasting change at home.

Between sessions, there are breaks built into the day so treatment feels intense but manageable, not overwhelming.

Is PHP or IOP the Better Fit?

Channel Islands offers both Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, and related conditions.

 PHP is typically recommended when:

  • You’re just leaving residential or hospital care
  • Symptoms are severe and still significantly disrupting daily life
  • You need 5 days per week of structured support

IOP may be recommended when:

  • You’re more stable but still need 9 hours per week of intensive therapy
  • You’re balancing school, work, or caregiving
  • You’ve already completed PHP and are stepping down
  • During your intake, our clinical team will help you determine the right level of care—you don’t have to decide this on your own.
